Each week during the school year, the Hume-Fogg PTO provides this on-line summary of upcoming happenings and news of interest to Hume-Fogg families. Information comes from H-F's administration, teachers, parents, students, SGA and PTO committee chairs. Sound of Music at Hume-Fogg STARTING TOMORROW NIGHT, Thursday, Nov. 6 The Hume-Fogg auditorium will come alive with the Sound of Music on Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Don't miss a star-studded cast includes Mary Clare Lutz as Maria, Daniel Collins as Captain Von Trapp, Sophie Salverson as Lisle, Luke Denison as Rolf, Michael Schoenfield as Fredrick, McKinzie Cunningham as Mother Abbess, Sophia Apuzzo as the Baroness, Ian Montgomery as Max, and the Hume-Fogg Orchestra. Reserved seats - highly recommended - are $10, general admission is $8, and student tickets are $5.
Mark your calendars: PTA Meeting Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m. The PTA will meet in the school conference room, located adjacent to the main school office, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18. See you there.
SAT/ACT Prep Scheduled in November - Register and Pay by Tomorrow Students can take advantage of ACT/ SAT prep sessions at Hume-Fogg during November. However, you must return your registration form and check to Dr. Hargis by TOMORROW - Thursday, Nov. 6, to enroll. The text is "Cracking the SAT," and sessions are scheduled after school Monday through Thursday for three weeks, starting Monday. Nov. 10. Questions? H-F Students to represent 25 countries at Model U.N. Nov. 7-9 Mrs. Smith reports, "All of our resolutions are well-written and well-researched. I am very excited to hear our students present their arguments at the conference."
Author Richard Louv to speak at Hume-Fogg Monday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m. Richard Louv, author of "Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature Deficit Disorder," will speak at Hume-Fogg starting at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10. Parents are invited for an exciting presentation about what we can do to reconnect our children with nature. His book presents an exciting new body of scientific evidence and offers practical suggestions for parents, teachers, urban planners and anyone else concerned about the future of our children and our environment. He will also sign copies of his book immediately following the program.
Junior Parents & Students: Save the Date! Jan. 12, 6:30 p.m. "A College Conversation" This special program will address the college search and process, including what applicants need to consider in their school choices and what admissions officers look for in successful applicants. Our panel will include parents who have "been there" as well as a Hume-Fogg senior. One-Day Flu Shot Clinics - Last Chance Nov. 10 Metro is offering flu shots for $20. The fee will be adjusted for those who cannot pay the full amount. Medicare Part B and TennCare insurance will be accepted. The last clinic is schedule Monday, Nov. 10, at the Metro Police Department's North Precinct, 2231 26th Ave. N., from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Essay Contest for Tennessee High School Seniors - Deadline Nov. 28 Write an essay about how you will plan for your financial future, and you could win a $1,500 savings bond. Deadline for entries is Nov. 28.
