The purpose of the Magnet Cluster Parent Group is to bring parent representatives from MNPS' magnet schools together to discuss issues concerning each school, positive happenings, best practices, etc. We also look for common concerns among all the participating schools (e.g., authentic programs, high quality teachers, etc.). Cluster wide issues are addressed (and tackled) at the cluster meetings. Concerns, best practices, etc., are escalated to the district's Parents Advisory Council and shared with the other 11 clusters in MNPS.
The 12 schools in the Magnet Cluster are East Literature, Hume-Fogg, MLK, Nashville School of the Arts, Creswell, Head, John Early, Meigs, Rose Park, Carter Lawrence, Hull-Jackson, and Jones Paideia. Each year the Hume-Fogg Association elects two parents to represent Hume-Fogg in this group.
Our Magnet Cluster group would like to make Hume-Fogg parents aware of several items:
School uniforms –
On October 24, 2006, at its regularly scheduled meeting (broadcast on Channel 3), the MNPS school board will begin addressing the topic of school uniforms. Please contact your school board representative (David Fox for Hume Fogg) and the school board member for the area in which you reside and share with them your opinion on the topic. The NashvilleCityPaper has run an article and an editorial on the topic. For additional information please go to:

School choice -- Meetings set for school enrollment information
Parents can learn more about the types of schools [academic magnet, thematic magnet, enhanced option, special transfer, etc.] their children may attend – and the enrollment process for each – during three upcoming information sessions hosted by Metro Nashville Public Schools. These are set for Oct. 17 at Hillsboro High School (7 p.m.), Oct. 19 at I.T. Creswell Middle Arts Magnet School (6 p.m.), and Oct. 24 at the televised meeting of the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Public Education (5 p.m.)
Parents and students will be able to speak with MNPS staff and ask questions during the Oct. 17 and 19 meetings. Those unable to attend either session may watch the information presented during the Oct. 24 Board meeting as it is broadcast live or during taped rebroadcasts throughout the following week
Additional information about parent cluster groups and the Parents Advisory Council is available on the MNPS web site.
